Cost of Cool
According to market researchers, the most influential of all the young trendsetters is the disaffected minority teenager, particularly the urban black male. Drawing upon their street and prison experiences, they have created a raw and irreverent hip-hop culture that marketers describe as a “cultural triangle” of fashion, music, and sports. Marketing studies not that this urban youth culture has “a major impact on consumer preferences in the general market in the United States and worldwide in a wide range of industries, including apparel, footwear, soft-drinks, packaged foods, personal-care products, and all facets of the entertainment industry” (Packaged Facts, 2000 quoted in Teaching Youth Media, 2003 pg 27).

natalia's poem of our words of the day
Media is ubiquitous.
Our eyes, ears, minds - promiscuous.
Gatekeepers hold the key
to you, the commodity.
Satirize this conglomerate
culture.
This commercialized
structure.
The cost of cool is social ill.
(are you down with the illness?)
Or do these sound like healthy ideals?
SEX.
MONEY.
APPEARANCE.
Pay attention as the
great philosophers of our time
show the light:
Be True, says Nike.
Image is Nothing, preaches Sprite.
And as you write your narrative,
Remember: you are your own stereotype.

Feeding the Hungry
My Vision
Working in Photo shop Brandon and i constructed a project on our ideal vision on the future.
Our ideal for the future is to succeed, reach all our goals, and live a better life. On our project there was two sides of the picture. On one side of the picture looking dirty the other side Brandon and i living the fabulous life. Well the main idea our project repersented us as african males coming up from being poor and the struggles we faced through our life to reaching all our goals and aspirations.

Marielle's Vision Of The Future
This is my desired vision of the future. I believe that sooner or later humanity will come together as one putting aside prejudice, hatred, violence and all the other things that stop us from being united. I also believe that we all shall forgive those who have hurt us in the past due to the fact that forgiveness is the key to freedom. I also believe that we shall all be grateful for each day because tomorrows are uncertain so why not make the best of today just in case we don't see tomorrow?

Privilege
Hmm, stereotypes don't have to be just negative. Because I'm a white girl, I can get away with a lot of things. People assume I am unthreatening, responsible, educated. That's cool when I'm interacting with people who have authority (landlords, employers, etc.) but it's not cool when people think that I'm rich or spoiled or only interested in one kind of culture. PRIVILEGE is when your stereotype comes with benefits, when it gives you certain opportunities just because of the way you look. So there's always an upside and a flip-side. It's easier for me to get a taxi but takes more work to earn street cred.
sterotypes
i feel as though there are many stereotypes such as when a african american walk in the store a clerk assumes you want chicken!
Hello my name is Micaiah and the stereotype I fall into is the stereotype of all black people love chicken. Reason being is that I often eat chicken and I'm contributing to the stereotype.
Actually I don't think I fit into a stereotype because I am unique and different person. There aren't any stereotypes that apply to me.

just another statistic
When people see me on the street, at parties or places other than school they naturally assume.... she's black, probably has children , no goals , undereducated , attitude , eye rolling, teeth sucking black woman. YET this could no be further from the truth behind the stereotype IM a Motivator , Educator , Activist, Student and so much more than just another statistic
HELLO, THIS IS KWAME
A LOT OF PEOPLE STEREOTYPE ME. EVERYWHERE I GO PEOPLE ALWAYS JUDGE ME AND NOW IT REALLY DOES NOT BOTHER ME. IAM USED TO BEING JUDGED ALL THE TIME. WHEN I GO IN CERTAIN STORES THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE MAYBE ALL ON YOUR NECK AND BACK LIKE YOUR GOING TO STEAL SOMETHING. A LOT OF STORES I GO INTO PEOPLE WATCH YOU LIKE YOUR A BAD GUY OR A KILLER.
steretypes
High my name is Mooney i believe there are many stereotypes about black people which i believe not to be true such as all black people are violent .
Stereotypes
Hello, my name is Ameisha. There are many stereotypes and I do not know which one I fit into. Many people categorize each other based on appearance, profession, or even the neighborhood they are from. I honestly do not care what stereotype people put me in because I know who I am and who I want to be.
Chaneel
Hi, my name is Chaneel and I don't think I fit into any stereotypes because I am my own person. The stereotypes that are said about girls are mostly negative. I'm not going to get pregnant at a young age because I have a beautiful future ahead of me. I plan on going to Spellman College. I want to do many things in life & I don't have time for kids until I've accomplished all that I want. I am a very complex person. At times, I can be loud and obnoxious, but also at times I can be professional and sweet. I know there is a time and a place for everything.
Standing up for the MOVEMENT
Victoria...
Why do people talk about a Social Change but when the time comes for a change they RUN away from the problem? For instance voting, crime rate and education. More people need to stand up for the CAUSE and if they can't stand up don't talk about the EFFECT.

Homosexual
Hello my name is Victoria. My issue is why do people think if your gay, you have to be UGLY? ..(^_^) I don't get it. Please help me with that issue.
Diverse
Hi my name is Marielle I believe that I fit into a lot of stereotypes because of how I look, my personality and the fact that I interact with different groups of people. I am Hispanic, Dominican to be exact. I was raised in Puerto Rico and I'm mainly asked the question if I'm black. I know people stereotype me depending of what they think I am and of what they think they know. I believe stereotypes are wrong but most people do it without knowing they are doing it. Many believe that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but when they meet new people they compose an immediate answer to the type of person they are.
STEREOTYPES
DO YOU FIT INTO A MOLD?
A stereotype is a shortcut to understanding about a person. It is an easily accessible mold. What stereotypes may other people have about you based on the demographic categories you fit into (race, gender, location)? How does that affect your daily life and your interactions with others?
STER-E-O-TYPE:
a process for making metal printing plates by taking a MOLD and then taking from this mold a cast in type metal.
a simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in commom by members of a group.
